AICP Exam Registration/Application Information

The application for the AICP exam registration is an on-line form. The single fee for the on-line application is $425. Besides providing your basic personal information (name, address, etc.) you will have to provide a description of your professional planning experience, letters of verification from all past and present employers in your planning career, and written confirmation that you received your degree from the appropriate entity.

For Professional Planning Experience, it is wise to draft your planning experience prior to filling out the on-line form. You can cut and paste your experience into the form in the appropriate place. See "Professional Planning Experience Required".

For Letters of Verification from Employers, the letters must arrive at AICP offices in Washington, D.C. within 3 weeks of application submittal. Before you complete your on-line form, it is wise to get all mailing information for employers and draft the letters that you will send them requesting verification. Organizing this information prior to submitting the application will help you get the information back to AICP on time. The signed letter, on department/company letterhead, should come from either an immediate supervisor, principal of the firm, or human resource department. The letter should include your name, position, title, dates of employment and brief summary of duties as a professional planner. The name, title, and phone number of the letter writer should also be noted.

For Verification of Degree in Planning, this verification must also arrive at AICP offices in Washington, D.C. within 3 weeks of application submittal. Three formats are accepted as verification:

  • Official transcript
  • Letter from school dean confirming that degree was received
  • Notarized photocopy of diploma
